Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Legacy Key service available at https://www.legacykey.com and the associated application (collectively, the "Service"). Please read them carefully.

By accessing, registering for, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use the Service.

1. The Service

Legacy Key is a personal documentation and planning tool that helps users organize hardware cryptocurrency wallet details, backup locations, multisig configurations, recovery contacts, verification records, and inheritance/access planning.

2. Accounts and Security

• You must provide accurate information during registration.
• You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account.
• Enable two-factor authentication (MFA) where available—we strongly recommend it.
• You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately of unauthorized access.
• We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations of these Terms, suspected fraud, or legal requirements.

3. User Content and Responsibilities

You retain ownership of any content you upload or input (e.g., wallet metadata, photos, documents, notes, recovery instructions). By using the Service, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, process, display, and transmit that content solely to provide and improve the Service.

You agree not to:

• Upload illegal, harmful, infringing, or malicious content.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, interfere with, or overburden the Service.
• Use the Service for commercial resale or unauthorized sharing beyond intended features.
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate others.

We may remove content or restrict access if we believe it violates these Terms or applicable law.

4. Subscriptions and Billing

• The Service offers all plans with zero-knowledge encryption. All plans include a 14-day free trial.
• Paid subscriptions are managed through Stripe. Prices and features are listed on our pricing page and may change with notice.
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled before the renewal date.
• You may cancel anytime via your account settings; access continues until the end of the paid period (no prorated refunds unless required by law).
• We do not offer refunds for partial periods except as required by applicable law or our then-current refund policy.

5. Zero-Knowledge Encryption (All Plans)

All users benefit from client-side zero-knowledge encryption (ZKE): sensitive data is encrypted in your browser using keys derived from your password (and your Recovery Key). We never hold decryption keys and cannot access plaintext data—even with full server control.

• Recovery: all users rely on an LK- Recovery Key (Crockford Base32) for access if passwords are lost. We cannot recover data without it. We do not recover accounts with a 24-word BIP39 phrase.
• All plans use client-side zero-knowledge encryption. Password resets clear encrypted data unless you use your LK- Recovery Key.

Loss of credentials may result in permanent data loss—we are not liable for such losses.

6. Sharing, Inheritance, and Trusted Contacts

• Account sharing and inheritance contacts grant access (read-only or read/write) to designated users.
• You are responsible for the accuracy of shared information and for obtaining consent from contacts.
• Revoke sharing or inheritance designations at any time via account settings.
• We are not responsible for disputes, misuse, or legal consequences arising from shared access or exported emergency documents.

7. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from viruses. We are not responsible for:

• Loss, theft, or compromise of cryptocurrency assets (we never handle keys or funds).
• Inaccuracies in user-entered documentation or exported files.
• Failures in inheritance planning, legal validity of documents, or family disputes.
• Data loss due to user error, forgotten credentials, or third-party actions.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LEGACY KEY, LLC AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR CRYPTO ASSETS), EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.

Our total aggregate liability to you shall not exceed the greater of (i) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (ii) USD $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations—those apply only to the extent permitted.

9. Termination

• You may stop using the Service at any time.
• We may suspend or terminate your access immediately for violations, at our sole discretion, or as required by law.
• Upon termination, we may delete your data in accordance with our data retention and deletion policies (see Privacy Policy).

10. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

You agree to waive any right to a jury trial or class action.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised version here with a new effective date. For material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (e.g., via email or in-app notification). Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
